From the analysis of policing trends, policing has evolved significantly since the 1600s. Technology has been the major factor impacting change; policing culture and strategies also play a significant role. This paper will address the challenges of policing in the long-run, function of community relations in solving these challenges, and the role of technology in policing. Future challenges in policing We can't ignore the global changes that are likely to affect policing, such as increased population and technological advancements. According to AREMU (2012), the society and institution at large must prepare for remedies in policing. First, there is likely to be more civil unrest arising from protests and riots, which may cause uncontrolled deaths and large-scale disturbances since the police officers are not prepared in dealing with large crowds. In such situations, the defense department uses harmful mechanisms because they have no tactical equipment.
