Correctional Support Staff Response Paper.docx Correctional Support Staff Response paper CPSS/215 My name is Latisha Hargrove and I am a part of the correctional system staff in the city and state that I currently live in. My job consists of assisting prisoners with making personal goals for themselves through probation to be able enter society. I™m here to speak on the behalf of my staff about my experience's and I will answer the questions given to me so the class will have an understanding of prison culture. There are many different types of cultures and subcultures that an inmate could face in prison. Prison culture is supported by a theory behind the subculture inside of the correctional system that comes from the outside world. The cultures that are in prison reflects the inmates subcultures they are in on the streets. An inmate's background has a major impact on how their behavior is on the outside and in prison. The state of the correctional staff has changed a lot since the 80™s to now because of the multicultural environment within the criminal justice system. Also, during the late 80™s women that worked in the correctional system were treated unfairly and were exposed to discrimination and harassment with the male staff and inmates. Many of the minorities that worked in the correctional system were faced with working in a prejudice environment. Now correctional staff work place employ all individuals and women are treated fairly and with respect and professionalism.
