Self-assessment, peer assessment and learning plan are the components of the Quality Assurance Program. Self-assessment is a self-directed, two-part process that results in the development of a learning plan that will reflect on your practice and obtain peer input which you can develop the learning goals related to your learning needs and choose practice documents related to your goals. Peer assessment provides a different perspective on nurse practice which can be formal or informal from someone you trust or respect and does not have to be in the same role. Learning plan is a record of your activities to maintain your competence as a nurse and you are expected to update your Learning Plan regularly and keep it for two years (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2014). Quality Assurance in health care delivery focuses on ensuring and maintaining a high standard of service offered in various health care systems. It is very important for the healthcare professionals to identify his or her strengths, areas for improvement and learning needs in order to provide safe and quality care.
