ArtificialIntelligenceSpaceExplorationRoughDraft.docx Artificial Intelligence in Space Exploration: An Analysis of National Security Threats SSGS 300 American Public University: SSGS 300 Abstract Space exploration continues through the use of technological advancements such as complex machinery, computer programs, and modern artificial intelligence programs. There have been many papers on the subject of AI and its uses in space exploration, but there is surprisingly little recognizing the effects such technology could have upon the world. The use of advanced AI in space programs and operations bring into question the threat level and risks to national security. This study questions those risks and threats in an attempt to identify key issues within each subject, whether such subjects are issues, and the overall implications of AI usage in space operations. Surveys of experts in each field, space operations, engineering, transportation, artificial intelligence programing, robotic engineering, and strategic intelligence will be interviewed. It proposes research on the extent of current AI capabilities as applicable to the subject of space and its correlation to national security threats. Artificial Intelligence in Space Exploration: An Analysis of National Security Threats The words Artificial Intelligence often produces mental images of robots like Transformers or AI programs like Skynet or Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey, others still think of advanced computer programs like J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Marvel comics.
