Since the writer resides in the State of Texas, these plans and guidelines will be applicable and abiding by the rules that governs the Texas scope of practice (American Nurses Association, 2014). Scope of Practice in the State of Texas Texas is one of the many states in the United states that recognizes the role of nurse practitioners but however does not allow a sole operatorship for them. The state law requires or mandates that an NP must have a collaborative physician who they will agree with to be a supervisory person over their practice. These physicians oversee the NPs practice especially manages the prescription of controlled substances like schedule II and III medications. While NP s is free to practice after obtaining their certification in the state, the are still been regulated to ensure proper practices. The scope of an NP however ranges from diagnosing, treating, ordering laboratory investigations, and prescribing medications for their clients.
