Assignment 2.docx ISSC 431 Resetting Root Password for Windows ISSC 431 American Military University Resetting Root Password for Windows The aim of this paper is to discuss the steps which are involved when resetting the root password for windows. The objective of setting the root password is to enable to user to have administrative rights or for security purposes. Before starting the process of resetting, it is necessary to ensure that one stops MySQL in case it is running. The MySQL can be turned off by going to the task manager, and then forcing it to stop among the services. It is identified as MySQL 56 in the services pane of the task manager, however, this may vary from one version to another (Nixon, 2014). The next step in setting the root password for windows involves creating a text file that contains the command statement. This statement is where the new password will be entered and is applicable for versions of MySQL beyond 5.7.6. The statement reads “ALTER USER ‘root ‘@ localhost IDENTIFIED BY ‘MyNewPassword; (Oracle, 2016). It is important to create the text file on the root directory of the drive, or where the software is installed. The new password is typed in the field indicated MyNewPassword (Fitzgerald, 2017). After this, one has to proceed to the MySQL root directory, and open the command prompt from there by holding the shift key, and clicking on open in cmd. Then a default file option is specified, and the path to the MySQL init file typed, or copied . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
