The Institute for Healthcare and Improvement (2020) states, while all changes do not lead to improvement, all improvement requires change. Nurses have been expected to increase their knowledge base and adapt to continuously changing policies to provide quality, patient-centered care. Purpose of Consultation and Overview of the Consultation Process The purpose of the consultation is to establish a practice to be improved. An interview with a nurse leader was completed to explore strengths and weakness of the organization. An interview with Tammy Lantz, RN, provided information of her leadership role, current evidence-based activities, and quality improvement projects on the Special Delivery Unit (SDU). Using the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) model, a weakness on the unit was identified as an increase in nulliparous cesarean deliveries. A plan for improvement was recommended to be implemented for education and use of technology along with their rationale. Finally, a plan for how to evaluate the outcomes for the recommendations was provided.
