Intersection and Religious Discrimination.docx SOCW-6051 Intersection and Religious Discrimination Master of Social Work, Walden University SOCW-6051 The Role of Religion in reinforcing sexism, classism, and racism Religion a multitude of beliefs, systems of cultures, and universal views that pertains to an order for humans (Religion, 2012). Unfortunately, discrimination intersects when referring to religion. Adams et al., (2018) writes that there are various types of oppression in which one religious group is dominant over a subordinate group and kills them, such as the Jews and Muslims by â€œCrusadersâ€ of the Christian faith. â€œAlthough class, race, and gender act independently of each other, they are at the same time very much interrelated (Adams et al., 2018, p. 181). Christianity displays stereotypical religious prejudice of homosexuality, opposes same-sex marriage, misogyny, and feminist backlash (Adams et al., 2018). Examples of sexism, classism, and racism Black people were also among those of the oppressed groups. â€œRace and religion were intertwined as justifications for slavery in the Americas where â€œheathenâ€ black Africans were stolen from their homelands and forced into slavery for the remainder of their livesâ€ (Adams et al., 2018, p. 266).
