Percent Comm... unication Throughout my working day, I am constantly involved in communication. The information that I gathered about my personal communication experiences took place during my shift at the hospital as a patient transporter. Throughout the day, I am actively communicating to my coworkers, nurses, and patients. To define the amount of communication spent during a productive workday, I would say that at least 75% of my day involves communicating in order to effectively get my work done. 2. Percent Time Considering the different contexts in which I communicate, I have established a rough estimate of percentages where I focus on different forms of communication throughout my workday. I participated in intrapersonal communication 20% of the day. This involved my personal self-talk, imagination, and thoughts. McLean (2018) explains intrapersonal communication as having a “talk with yourself” (p. 31). I used dyadic, or interpersonal communication about 50% of my day. This consisted of effective communication between me and a nurse or me and a patient. This form of communication is the most important in helping me achieve my successful job performance. I spent 25% of my day utilizing small group communication, when talking to my coworkers during break or whenever working with one another to get a job done.
