ApplegateGroup_Design_Part_Four__Group_Issues_and_Summary.docx(1) PCN-520 Group Design Part Four: Group Issues and Summary PCN-520 Introduction This paper will attempt to illustrate examples of... topics that are possible sensitive areas for some group members. During group sessions there is ample opportunity for the discussion to go in a myriad of directions that shift into delicate areas. While open discussion is encouraged, individual reactions to certain subjects could be rather strong either for or against the topic. This paper will look at homosexuality, religious preference and drinking and driving. Group History The group consists of 10 “professional†men. All hold college degrees and are employed full time – but not all of them hold jobs in their preferred field due to issues from substance use and consequent arrests. Several have had professional licenses suspended due to felony convictions. The group has met for two sessions, this being the third meeting, and the men are beginning to show some trust in one another and the group itself. The group is in the early to working stages with group cohesion beginning to take place. Homosexuality Homosexuality of a person is defined as sexually attracted to people of one's own sex (The New Oxford American Dictionary, 2008). During group discussion about substance use, one of the group members, Jim, says he blames his sons homosexuality on his drinking and drug use. He says he feels if he had been a better role model, his son would be “normal†and have a wife and kid. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
