discipline_interview.docx Discipline: Interview and Reflection Grand Canyon University: SPD-510 Discipline Public schools have a code of conduct that must follow the federal and state guidelines that requires school to maintain a safe learning environment for all students and employees (Center for Parents Information and Resources, 2017). All students, including students with IEPs, must follow the school rules. If a student with or without disabilities breaks the rules the school has the right to discipline the student but not discriminate based on the students disability or non-disability. The punishment cannot be more sever for students with disabilities than it would be for a student without disabilities (Center for Parents Information and Resources, 2017). To ensure this is followed IDEA provides protection to student with IEPs. They are not put in place to be an excuse to allow students with disabilities to break the rules and not be held accountable but to ensure that the student does not go more than ten days without the services written in their IEP.
