Document5.docx Person-Centered, Existential, and Gestalt Theory Application Grand Canyon University PCN- 500 The concept of theory that is most appropriate for the client The most appropriate theory that is most effective for the client is the person-centered theory. The person-centered theory was formulated by Carl Rogers. I believe that this theory can assist the client in effective problem-solving skills when faced with dilemmas. Rogers believed that clients are conscious and can understand what issues they are faced with and how they can come to a resolution for that problem. With this type of therapy method, the counselor serves as the facilitator. In other words, the counselor will act in a way of compassion, as well as being an active listener and acknowledging what the client is facing and their feelings towards those issues. Concepts of the person-centered theory The person-centered theory consists of three elements. The first element is providing unconditional positive regard. In other words, the counselor would have to show empathy and understanding to the client's feelings. The counselor should build trust and ensure the client that the Environment (office, or where ever the session is taking place) that they are in is a safe space; judgement free zone. The counselor should be building the clients confidence and supporting her to make her own decision. The second element is empathic understanding.
