These groups exist for a variety of reasons and they are seen throughout a variety of environments as well. “Each group that we are involved in throughout our lifetimes falls under a specific category to describe the purpose that it serves. These group categories are defined as follows: task/work groups, counseling, psychoeducational, and psychotherapy (Forsyth, 2019). The different types of groups that individuals are involved in have a strong influence in molding them, as well as defining and shaping their lives for the better. The following paragraphs will discuss between a comparison and a contrast within each of the three groups that are: counseling, psychoeducational, and task/work groups. Each groups target populations, strengths and weaknesses, as well as any challenges that each face in their development†while be evaluated. Counseling groups, by definition, are a form of counseling where “a small group of people meet regularly to discuss, interact, and explore problems with each other and the group leader†(Forsyth, 2019). It is a more direct approach to dealing with troublesome behaviors.
