Implicit_prejudice.docx Implicit Prejudice College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Grand Canyon University PSY-362: Social Psychology Implicit Prejudice The Implicit Association Test (IAT... ) measures the strength of associations between evaluations and concepts (Harvard, n.d.). Within the quiz that I had taken it measured preference between African Americans and European Americans, it was under Race IAT.The IAT was created to have a broad understanding of implicit cognition. Implicit cognition uses thoughts, actions, morale, awareness, and stereotypes. On the website, there was a variety of tests that one can take. There were many tests that can be taken to measure beliefs and attitudes towards stereotypes like the Race IAT. The Implicit Association Test (IAT) that I had taken was Race, Black-White IAT. Within this test, it was designed to determine any preference of African Americans and European Americans. Within the test, there were images of those with a lighter facial complexion and those with a darker facial complexion. After taking the IAT, my results suggested no automatic preference between African Americans and European Americans. While growing up, my neighborhood was diverse, so I was able to communication with others who did look like me and to those who did not. My parents taught to always show respect to others, so I never had an issue. Overall, my results did actually surprise me just a bit.
