Personality_Paper.docx(1) Personality Paper 1 Personality Paper: Coping Strategies and Personality Humanities and Social Sciences Grand Canyon University Personality Paper: Coping Strategies and Personality When going through stressful times or a traumatic event people subconsciously and consciously use coping strategies to help subdue the anxiety or discomfort they feel. These are not always good coping strategies some are harmless, and some are detrimental to their physical being. The options are endless. The different ways people cope with anxiety through different coping strategies like avoidance and active role strategies in particular tell you a lot about their personality. Different Types of Coping Strategies and Mechanisms Coping strategies and mechanisms can vary from art, to alcohol, to facing the problem head on and getting as much information to assess the situation. These different coping strategies are categorized as avoidant and active and emotion motivated coping stratagies. Some examples of coping strategies are: Humor, friendship support, problem solving, relaxation, physical recreation, adjusting expectations, denial, self-blame, venting. Passive Coping Strategies Passive coping strategies are not meant to fix the problem itself it is only meant to make you feel better and forget about the issue for a time. Passive coping strategies are not always bad, but they do not work as well as active strategies.
