PSY_362_Benchmark_research_reflection_.docx PSY 362 Grand Canyon University: PSY 362 The scientific study of a person thoughts, feelings, and behavior in a social situation is known as Social Psychology (Gilovich, Keltner, Chen, & Nisbett, 2018). Some important factors of social psychology are social and cultural competence. In this paper I discuss the importance of social competence and cultural competence and how they relate scientifically. Social competence often focuses on an individual™s actions socially, their emotion, and behavior with the skills they have acquired overtime. Scientific research is important in social competence it allows researchers to study an individual and gain information on their reaction in certain situation. For example, Milgram experiment 1963 is a perfect example of social competence. Milgram™s main goal with his experiment was to study and test the obedience of a person with authority, and pain when they are under pressure (Milgram, 1963). Using 40 male individuals Milgram used the sampling method to test his hypothesis. They each were asked a question that needed to be answered correctly to avoid being shocked, but if he answered incorrectly, he was shocked with voltage between 15 to 450 volts (Milgram 1963).
