Giannopoulou et al. (2018) outlines that acculturation is the process that immigrants go through in maintaining their culture of origin while trying to conform in a new home environment that has different cultural values and beliefs. With acculturation and being in a new home environment comes levels of anxiety and stress, which professional counselors must recognize that excessive stress and anxiety can lead to immigrants facing mental and physical health issues, such as depression, getting involved in health compromising activities, and cardiovascular issues.
