HCIS.140___W4_Information_Systems.docx Week 4 Assignment - Information Systems Presentation University of Phoenix HCIS/140 Health Information Systems The variety of systems designed to manage health care data, health information systems (HISs) are an integral component in the patient care process. From checking a patient into a facility to providing direct care, a variety of HISs are what allows for consistent and efficient workflow and good and proper patient care. Here, I will cover two such systems: HealthShare Patient Index and Clinical Decision Support. HealthShare Patient Index œOne patient, one record is the ideal, but its difficult to achieve (InterSystems.com, n.d.). HealthShare Patient Index is an enterprise master patient index (EMPI) that provides an automated and easily integrated solution for creating a œsingle source of truth for patient identity and demographic information. This system and other patient index systems like it are used to connect patient records across different databases and reduce duplicate records and inaccurate patient information. Some of the key features of the HealthShare Patient Index include: â—Batch Import to bulk-load patient data into the system. â—Dashboards that help achieve the highest levels of record-matching accuracy. â—Whole Record Viewer to efficiently compare and validate patient identity and demographics. â—Auditing and Security for managing access and track record updates and all decisions to link or unlink patient records.
