C228 Community Health & Population-Focused Nursing - Task 1.docx Task 1 C228 V3 Western Governors University (B) Needs Assessment Sentinel City is a simulated computer software that illustrates and attempts to represent what a community in the United States would be like today. There are four communities within Sentinel City: Nightingale Square, Acer Tech Center, Casper Park District, and Industrial Heights (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2018). While observing the entire city while riding a bus through the streets and walking around the city speaking to the residents, this writer collected and analyzed data regarding the public health aspect of this simulated city. Demographics: The collected data reveals that the overall population of Sentinel City is 663,862. Of this population, 21.7% is over the age of 18, 10.5% are age 65 and over, and 7.4% are younger than 5 years (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2018). There is a variety of different races in Sentinel City: Whites make up the largest population at 52.7%, then Hispanic or Latino at 31.5%; and others are as follows: Black or African American 10.4%, Asians 3.7%, and those with two or more races make up 3.1% (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2018). The race with the least percentage is Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander at 0.2% (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2018). The percentage of all these races who were foreign born is 16.1% and the gender of the population is approximately half and half with 49.9% being female (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2018).
