C228 Task 1 B. Needs Assessment C228 Task 1 B. Needs Assessment   Demographics Assessment: Task 1 is based off the virtual simulation called Sentinel City. The data in this task was collected by touring around the city on the virtual bus to the four different neighborhoods and making observations. Sentinel City has an overall population of 663,862 (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016). There are 261,836 households living within the city, with 2.26 persons per household (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016). Sentinel City is not very diverse regarding race with 80.6% of the population being Caucasian, followed by 31.5% being Hispanic or Latino, 10.4% being African American, 3.7% being Asian, 2.0% being American Indian and Alaska Native, and lastly 0.2% being Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016). 10.5% of the population in Sentinel City are 65 years of age or older, 21.7% are under the age of 18, and 7.4% are under the age of 5 years old. There are 14,157 veterans living in Sentinel City (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016). 85.1% of the population over the age of 25 have a high school diploma and 42.2% over the age of 25 have a bachelors degree or higher (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016). The median household income of Sentinel City is $49,091 with 18.9% of Sentinel City residents living below the poverty level (Healthcare Learning Innovations, 2016).
