C228 Task 2.docx Â Â Â Â Community Outbreak Task 2 Western Governors University Community Outbreak Thanks to vaccinations and education the Measles were eliminated in 2000 in the United States. Then there was a scare that vaccines caused autism and bad side effects and less people were vaccinating. Due to an increase in nonvaccinating among the communities in combination with people coming to the United States unvaccinated. There were 1282 reported cases in the United States from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. Measles has been at an all-time high since 1992. The two highest numbers of cases in 2019 were 25,956 cases in the Philippines and 378 cases in Japan. Of the 1282 cases, 704 were reported in the United States in 2019 from January 1 through April 26. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 of the cases 128 were needing to be hospitalized. Other complications were pneumonia and encephalitis that were reported for 61 of the cases. Of the 1282 reported cases all of the subjects were not vaccinated and were caused by the measles wild-type D8 or B3. Most of the cases reported were in New York City. Of the 704 cases 44 of the cases were unvaccinated travelers from other countries infected with the disease. There were 34 of the cases that were United States Citizens that were traveling outside of the country unvaccinated. The remainder of the cases were in close-knit communities that have a low vaccination rate. (US Department of Health and Human Services, CDC, 2019b).
