Country to Compare In this paper I will compare Germanys healthcare system with the U.S. healthcare system. A2. Access For children in the US, if a family makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid children can qualify for CHIP (The Childrens Health Insurance Program). The CHIP program and Medicaid allow millions of Americans to have health care coverage at no to very little cost to them. Among these people, this includes low-income individuals, people with disabilities, families, children, the elderly and pregnant women. For children, CHIP coverage does vary upon each state but what the programs covers is anywhere from doctors visits, immunizations, x-rays and lab tests, dental and vision, emergency, outpatient and inpatient coverage. The cost does vary as well, but most well child visits and routine visits are free and other more in-depth visits such as emergency or inpatient visits do have copays (“The Childrens Health Insuranceâ€, 2019). In comparison, children in Germany are covered until the age of 18 by public health insurance. Pediatricians typically cover children until the age of 12 and then the care is transferred to a general practitioner. Emergency and outpatient care are offered by many of the specialty childrens hospitals. Also, in Germany vaccinations for children are free which is very different from the US (The German Healthcare System, 2020).
