C791_TECHNOLOGY HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS .docx TECHNOLOGY: HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS Technology: Health Information Systems As technologies in health information advance and the complexity of... health information systems (HIS) grows exponentially, healthcare organizations must also advance by developing systems capable of managing, processing, and keeping secure large volumes of medical information. In order to support the exchange and sharing of this massive amount of health information with accuracy and speed, healthcare organizations and providers must meet the requirements necessary to integrate their systems functions, data, and capabilities. This is a daunting task which raises concerns in regards to system interoperability, connectivity, quality and delivery of patient care and outcomes, availability, and protection of client confidentiality and data integrity. Advantages and Disadvantages of a System Usability of a HIS represents the use of technology and how the human-computer interaction (HCI) flows with that technology in being accepted and providing essential workflow (Hawkins, 2014). Usability provides many advantages to include: increased ease of use between all users, optimizing workflow, improving efficiency / effectiveness of the HIS, prevention of errors, promoting patient-centered care, and usability is a vital component in patient safety. A system that does not implement optimum usability suffers the disadvantages of multiple users and providers not gaining acceptance of the system, developi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
