Comp2-Task2.docx School Gardens Makes Life Impacts 1 School Gardens Makes Life Impacts Western Governors University S School Gardens Makes Life Impacts School systems around the US have been implementing school gardens on their grounds and creating life long lessons, making way for teachers to teach in a different manner, not just traditional methods. With the rise of child obesity, there is not a better time to teach students how to grow and eat healthier foods. They are showing new pathways for the student to become in their education and perform higher on tests from the usage of the garden. The effectiveness of integrating a garden within the school community regarding academic learning and personal development are crucial areas taught to students (Swank, 2013). Research suggests school gardens should be apart of all school's curriculum because it raises student test scores, promotes healthy eating habits, and teaches life long responsibilities. School garden curriculums raise student's academic performance through higher test scores in English, Maths, Science, and social studies. The primary focus in the garden centered on academic learning (Swank, 2013). The curriculum taught in the garden starts with the teaching of math from adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and fractions. The teacher will engage the student in mental math strategies while creating the correct placement for seeds and plants in the garden.
