The job of working in a correctional facility can be incredibly stressful and sometimes dangerous, but so can any job. Correctional officers have one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all occupations, often resulting from confrontations with inmates (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020). Their shifts cover all hours of the day and night, including weekends and holidays, which can put stress on their daily life and/or family life. The job of a correctional officer will have him/her staffed in either a jail where arrestees turn over daily, or in prison where the inmates are the same people on daily basis.
