The company has been around since 1937 and made its way around the world from humble beginnings in Germany. The company was well established and known as a maker of fine reliable cars and most definably a household name that was discussed in a positive light. Unfortunately,the dark truths regarding Volkswagen came to the attention of the public in 2015 that very harshly impacted the company and cast it in a very negative light. The company found itself caught in a scandal that came to show it was not as it™s names translation implies a car for the people. The events that befell Volkswagen beginning in 2015 showed that the company had been unethical. They caused suffering for the employee, investor, and customer relations of the company. As well their action negatively impacted the company™s admirable reputation. Volkswagenag(n.d.).Â (Case Study: Ethical Dilemma Facing a Corporation, 2017) The Defeat Device It was discovered that Volkswagen something called a defeat device in their vehicles specifically designed to help the vehicle pass laboratory emissions test despite the fact the cars were putting out as much as 40 time the legal emissions limits. This piece of equipment had been placed in a series over 16 different models with production years ranging from 2009-2016.
