Visual information processing.docx Psych/640 Visual Information Processing Psych/640 Cognitive Psychology January Visual Information Processing Visual Information Processing is the process that allows us to extract meaning and an understanding of what we are looking at, just as we can grasp and feel an object our brain allows us to visually grasp an object in view and then discover the meaning. Research into visual information processing has paved the way to advancements in treatments for visual processing disorder. The following is an in-depth review of how visual processing works and conditions that can impair how visual information is processed. There will also be a discussion on the research trends associated with visual information processing. What is Visual Informational Processing? All of the senses including touch, taste, hearing, smell, and sight contribute to how our brain processes information in our environment. For example, the smell of popcorn may remind you of going to a picture show or a song that reminds you of someone from your past. However, our sense of sight contributes to between 80-85% of our human daily information (Neuro- Optometric Rehabilitation Association, N.D.). Also, half of our brain is responsible for processing visual responses making sight one of the more prominent senses for humans (Revlin, 2013). The visual process is made up of three separate processes. The mechanical process begins when light, passes through the cornea and pupil to the lens.
