Undocumented immigrants remains a problem for both countries, most are ineligible for public coverage, anyone moving to Switzerland is required to purchase insurance within three months of arrival. A1. Access Each resident in Switzerland is mandated to have individual insurance called mandatory health insurance (MHI), insurance does not offer family plans, and insurance is purchased separately for each dependent. This was introduced from the Federal Health Insurance Law in 1996. The healthcare is universal and available to every resident, including children, retired, and unemployed.
