Defining Behavior The term Behavior is often used in everyday conversations, but what exactly is behavior? According to Miltenberger (2016), œBehavior is what people do and say (p. 2); this can involve anything from thoughts to feelings and emotions (Cooper, Heron, and Heward 2019, p. 26). Behaviors that can be observed or detected by others as the individual engages in them are called Overt Behaviors. Behaviors that cannot be observed or detected by others as the individual engages in them are called Covert Behaviors. Both Covert and Overt Behaviors have dimensions, which are the measurable aspects of all Behavior; The dimensions of behaviors are Frequency, Duration, Intensity, and Latency of a Behavior.
