Nurses compliance with central line associated blood stream infection prevention guidelines: observational study. Saudi Med Journal, 39(3), 273/279 Background or Introduction This study focuses on central line associated blood stream infection (CLABSI) and ways infection can be prevented through nursing compliance with hospital protocols regarding central line care. Central lines are catheters placed in a great vessel which allow for medication infusions and intravenous nutrition that cannot be infused through a peripheral IV. Although central lines serve many purposes to benefit the patient, they can also be costly not only to the patient and their medical condition but to the hospital as well when a CLABSI has occurred. Review of the Literature The purpose of this study is to explore hospital staff compliance with staff education, hand hygiene, dressing changes, antiseptic solutions used, administration of medication/blood/nutrition, and the use of antibiotics in order to prevent CLABSIs. Researchers reviewed 26 studies, some of the topics were Preventing central line infection, Gpower software, research methods involving behavior, and methods of measuring nurse to patient ratios. Discussion of Methodology The study took place in 15 ICUs in several cities in Jordan over a span of 5 months.
