Evidence Based Practice Task 2.docx (2) Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Western Governors University Healthcare problem The healthcare problem is the lack of education on fall prevention and the ability to focus patient centered care when devising a plan for fall prevention. Significance of the problem The healthcare problem is significant because there are many falls amongst patients that could be prevented if there were more education programs to help make patients aware of their risks. “Falls may prolong length of stay and contribute to morbidity, making fall prevention a priority for hospitals†(Radecki et al., 2018, p.114). If education programs were centered on the patients individual plan of care they would help with quicker discharges, decreased pain from injuries caused by falls and many other issues caused by falls. Current practice related to the problem The current practice to prevent falls is educating patients and their family members on the importance of fall prevention and safety. “A better knowledge of how fall risk awareness emerges, and related attitudes could help when developing and implementing fall preventive strategies and intervention programs…†(Pohl et al., 2015, p.2). Awareness is key when helping educate patients on their own fall prevention.
