EVP TASK 2 PAPER.docx Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Healthcare problem Wound complication and infection after a caesarean section are one of the most commons adverse effects after surgery. This can add additional health care cost and pain. Many benefits of medicinal plant use have been discovered and practiced today. The use of Calendula ointment can be a low cost and effective treatment option to add to current routine wound care in hospitals. In females with surgical caesarean incision, is adding calendula ointment to routine medical wound care an effective additional treatment to reduce post-surgical infection. Significance of the problem Wound opening of a caesarean surgical incision can result in hospitalization of the mother, the need for additional doctor visits for wound drainage and debridement, additional treatment of the wound, and an increase additional cost of medical care. Currently, medicinal plant use such as calendula ointment have not been used as an additional resource for wound healing. Medical care today has shifted to include use of homeopathic medicine for healing. Studies have shown that calendula ointment aids in the healing process and has little to no side effects with use. The problem faced today is to find a way to include in hospital wound care and educate patients and staff on the benefits and use.
