HLT 310V- Module 5 DQ 1.docx Where would you go for resources in helping a patient deal with his or her grief? Why would you choose that source, and how much help do you think you would get? Would it... be best to refer the patient to other resources, and how would you help them to identify these possible resources? Grief is “A reaction to loss that can encompass a range of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and is experienced differently by each person according to his or her culture, background, gender, beliefs, personality, and relationship to the deceased or loss†(Taylor, Lillis, & LeMone, 2005, p. 873). Losing someone or something that is deeply loved or cared about is extremely distressing on an individual. One may experience an array of difficult emotions, and it may feel as if these emotions will never cease. These are, however, normal reactions to a significant loss. The more significant the loss, the more intense the grief; yet even subtle losses can lead to grief (Taylor et al., 2005). Although there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there are healthy ways to cope with the pain that, in time, can renew an individual and permit him or her to move on. During times of grief, I, personally, rely on the consolation provided by close friends and family. Although friends and family may be very effective in supplying grief management, there are a multitude of other resourceful agents. Grief management techniques include, but are not limited to, accepting the loss, exercising regularly, partaking. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
