Nursing informatics is a relatively new term to many in patient care, but has been a large part of the advancement of nursing practice for a long time and it is important that clinicians have a general understanding of their role and what informatics offers. Discuss and Analyze Health Information Systems The advantages and disadvantages of a system are important. In general health information systems are all an electronic medical record or EMR all have the same basic function, to collect and save data to be retrieved for analyses. A large majority of the health systems use Epic as an information system, and therefore is the system that I will be analyzing for the purposes of this analysis. HIMSS describes “usability is the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction with which specific users can achieve a specific set of tasks in a particular environment†(HIMSS, nd). Usability and compatibility are important aspect when analyzing a health information management system. Is the system able to be input the data efficiently and is it able to be utilized when needed?
