If communication barriers are not appropriately addressing, it can have a negative effect on business functions. The four keys types of communication barriers include process barriers, personal barriers, physical barriers, and semantic barriers. Process barriers in communications may exist due to forgetting to send a message dead battery, busy signals, mixed signals, external noise, or mediums in the communication environment. Writing up a draft for an email and forgetting to send, and mentally preparing dialogue for a conversation but failing to initiate that conversation, is an example of a process barrier in communication. In my place of work, to overcome these types of process barriers, each morning I get in contact with an area manager in order to discuss items that may not have been tackled the previous days, and also to discuss ideas and information about things going forward. This call each morning is essential because although throughout each day we talk to each other through messages and person to person, sometimes not all matters get discussed.
