Services  The National Alliance to End Homelessness (2019) collected data that showed “seventeen out of every 10,000 people in the United States were experiencing homelessness on a single night,†suggesting a total of over 500,000 homeless people throughout the United States. As the homeless population grows, it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to receive quality care. This study will explore two methods that will help improve services in an outpatient mental health treatment center for individuals in the community who are homeless. The two focuses are working conditions for staff to alleviate occupational stress and exploring the effectiveness of homeless programs such as “Housing First.†In order to provide quality care to the homeless population, looking through the lens of occupational stress will be vital to managing employee burnout and turnover rates. By exploring strategies and interventions to better working conditions, employers will retain their employees, leading to better service for the population they serve.
