U2A1.docx COUN 5004 Unit 2 Assignment: Preliminary Conceptualization of the Counseling Field COUN 5004 Unit 2 Assignment: Preliminary Conceptualization of the Counseling Field Do you remember the question, â€œWhat do you want to be when you grow up?â€ At five years old the profession that I came across the most and had a basic idea of what that profession does was a Pediatrician. That was always my answer until I got older and realized how much schooling that required. As a teenager, high school was already tough enough, then adding six plus years to that to become a doctor was unfathomable. In eleventh grade I took my first Psychology course, AP Psychology, I knew that is what I wanted to do when I grew up. After high school, I enrolled in a four-year university knowing I was going to major in Psychology. A lot of freshmen do not know what they want to major in until after the first semester or two. At the time, Psychology was not the popular profession we know it to be today. Therefore, my mother was reluctant, and she would suggest I major in Journalism instead because I loved to write. Following my first year, I gained a knowledge of so many other fields I could major in that sparked my interest; however, I was set on Psychology and counseling people as my profession. Personal Interest in the Counseling Field and Career Goals In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
