Unit 1 Assignment 1.docx IT4310 Unit 1 Assignment 1 IT4310 How data integration solutions are used in management of DOT In the DOT (Department of Transportation) there is a need to be able to support a large amount of data in order to effectively meet the needs of the community in which they serve. This means that they rely on sever tool in which are able to effectively collect and analyze data to support routine operations for the department. This would also enhance their ability to add planning and design aspects for future projects. So to breakdown how the DOT uses data integration I will summarize a few key points the department focuses on for their operation needs. The department focuses on roadway, lifecycles, materials, time, traffic, accidents, repairs, and more. There is a vast amount of data in which will be funneled through these various silos and then made into a central repository of data in order to have a central view on the data to be able to make operations decisions based on analyzed data. Without the use of tools such as these the possibility of managing such a complex and ever- changing workload would be near if no impossible. This means for an organization like the DOT this is a key element and essential tool for their operations to be successful.
