The topic must be recently published (within the last 5 years) to ensure that all information is up to date and relatable to the current time. It should also be relatable to the situation. For example, this paper will outline evidence-based sources related to medication errors; therefore, the sources used should be evidence-based studies on causes and prevention of medication errors. The authors of sources used should be professionals in the field such as physicians, scientists and nurses and articles should be scholarly and peer reviewed. Lastly, high levels of bias should be avoided as bias can mispresent some information or may leave out important facts. Using these guidelines ensures that the information being used is accurate and valid (Hickerson, Taylor & Terhaar, 2016).
