It can happen for a variety of reasons such as false confessions, misconduct of government officials, or even false forensics. There are some ethical concerns when it comes to wrongful convictions like the well being of society. Everyone wants the bad guys to be put away behind bars. But the bad guys are not always the bad guys. They can be innocent people that are put away for someone elses crimes. Then that criminal that wasnt found and convicted can continue to go on about their lives and commit more crimes. Since the late 1980s, DNA evidence has been able to exonerate hundreds of people for being wrongfully convicted. DNA forensics has come a long way when it comes to identifying criminals and linking them to crimes. Another ethical issue concerning the wrongful convictions is honesty. Of course those who are wrongfully convicted are honest about it, but the criminal justice professionals may not be and those testifying against the wrongfully convicted my not be completely honest either. Sometimes people can be influenced by police officers or investigators to make a false identification against someone they believe is responsible for a crime.
