Now let us get a little deeper in how they work together with law enforcement and the other agencies within Homeland Security (Why Was the Homeland). Law enforcement agencies have a huge impact when it comes to working with the DHS. Our federal governments envision three intelligence roles for the local governments. David Carter explains that state and local agencies need to collect tactical intelligence for prevention of terrorism and other crimes. They are also to use intelligence for planning and the deployment of resources. Chief Gary vest states that information sharing is the heart of local intelligence systems. Agencies that share information at an unprecedented scale, but they need to enhance the process. This process is enhanced by creating systems that are governed by policies. Vest believes that this will regulate intelligence within the law, prevent leaks, and provide routine methods for sharing of information (White, 2014).
