IT283__Unit_1.docx Networking with TCP/IP Unit Assignment #1 Purdue University Global IT283: Networking with TCP/IP Unit Assignment #1 Part One ONE: TCP/IP is the communication standard for computers that allow them to communicate across a network and the internet. â€œIn 1969, an obscure arm of the United States Department of Defense (DoD), known as the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), funded an academic research project involving a special type of long-haul (long-distance) network, called a packet-switched network.â€ (Tittel, J.L.C.L.C. E.2012). ARPANET was created using the DoDs development in hopes that it could withstand nuclear strikes while still being able to communicate easily with another computer and across long distances. At this time in TCP/IP history mostly military and universities were using what we know of today as the internet. In 1978 IPv4 was developed and is still widely used to this day, but as of â€œNovember 25th, 2019 the final address available for IPv4 was used and is officially depletedâ€ (RIPE NCC, 2019). TCP/IP protocols are bundled into a suite under the four-layer model which is all designed to work together. It is called a suite due to them being all bundled together to work as one. RFC (Request for Comments) are standards and best practices established by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).
