IT331_Unit5.docx(1) IT 331 Purdue University Global Assignment 5 Course: IT 331 Technology Infrastructure 1. Understand Access Control Protocols: The two basic forms of medium access control protocols are CSMA/CD, which is found on star-wired bus local area networks, and cc, which is found on wireless local area networks. Support your responses with valid resources to insert as citations and in the reference list in APA style format Discuss the differences and similarities of these two protocols. Provide at least two differences and two similarities. 10 pts Carrier Sense Multiple Access/ Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) and Carrier Sense Multiple Access/ Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) are both network protocols that operate in the Medium Access Control (MAC) Layer [ CITATION Mah20 \l 1033 ]. Both protocols work by monitoring the network traffic to try and prevent a collision. CSMA/CD is used to detect when a collision happens. Once the collision occurs, this protocol stops the transmission and sends a jam signal to all devices on the network. This signal sets up random wait times for those devices to resend transmissions in an effort to prevent another collision. CSMA/CD is used on wired networks while /CA is used on wireless networks. CSMA/CA is different in that it is used to try and avoid the collision from happening, where /CD is used after a collision has happened. CSMA/CA is used when a network device tries to send data, /CA will c. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
