2 2 Final Project Milestone 1.docx SOC 112 Milestone One “ Topic Selection Bullying SOC 112 For my final project, I have decided to choose bullying, being bullied myself, this topic is very important to me. It is also a very massive social issue because it has become more and more of an issue as social media has become more and more popular. Bullying can be seen in many shapes and forms (verbal, non-verbal, social, cyber bullying, physical) and can occur at any age group, race, sexual orientation, whether male or female. The effects of bullying do not discriminate. Anyone can be a victim of bullying. It can cause the victim to experience problems such as depression, substance and alcohol abuse, and the most severe, suicide. The majority of the world knows that bullying others is not okay. However, just because they know that it is not okay does not mean that some will not stop doing it. It is sad to think that growing up, going though school, we as parents, teachers, and students all have to be taught what bullying is and what to look for if you believe that someone is being bullied. As students, in grade school, every year we would have to have a class about bullying and how dangerous it really is. Each year we had that class, which was always towards the beginning of the year, I always saw kids being bullied or I was being bullied. It never feels good. Over the years, I learned not to let it bother me as much. However, not everyone has that same strength.
