(2012), there is a growing body of research that has investigated how stress, and specifically different forms of childhood abuse, is associated with neuroendocrine function.Child abuse addresses the developmental delays a child can experience if abused or experiencing a trauma. According to Lehmann et al., (2020), œChildren and young people placed in foster care are a particularly vulnerable group who have experienced abuse and neglect and have a high prevalence of mental disorders. Stock & Fisher (2006) found that many of the children in foster care are at high risk for delays in development. They reported that as much as 66% of these children exhibit developmental delays in at least one area. Over 80% of foster children that were examined suffered from developmental, behavioral, or emotional problems which is two to eight times the national average (Stock & Fisher, 2006, p. 1, para 2). Nature vs. Nature With some developmental issues, the issue of whether it is a nature vs. nurture issue can be debated.
