Locsin’s Technological Competency as Caring INTRODUCTION  Technological competency as caring in nursing is the harmonious coexistence between technologies and caring in nursing.  The harmonization of these concepts places the practice of nursing within the context of modern healthcare and acknowledges that these concepts can co-exist.  Technology brings the patient closer to the nurse. Conversely, technology can also increase the gap between the nurse and nursed.  When technology is used to know persons continuously in the moment, the process of nursing is lived.  The scope of Locsin’s theory is narrow using technology, caring, and knowing persons Acceptance The broad concepts of caring and technology have been applied to nursing and critical care practice HISTORY AND BACKGROUND  Locsin was born in 1954. He is a registered nurse, a native of Dumaguete City, Philippines.  Dr. Rozzano Locsin earned his PhD in Nursing from the University of the Philippines in 1988, and his MA in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Silliman Universityin 1978 and 1976 respectively in the Philippines  He continued his fellowship in American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and Philippine-American Academy Science & Engineering (PAASE)  Dr. Rozzano Locsin is Professor of Nursing at Tokushima University (Japan), Professor Emeritus of Florida Atlantic University (United States), and Visiting Professor at universities in Thailand, Uganda, and the Philippines.  He teaches Philosophies of Science Grounding Nursing, Introduction to Nursing as Discipline and Profession Nursing Research, Arts as Healing Modalities in Nursing, Philosophical & Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Practice Nursing and Advancing Technology, Caring, and Nursing.
