Heart valves and the Cardiac cycle
1. Valve 1 is open because there is pressure in chamber A that forces valve 1 to open.
2. Valve 2 is open Because there is pressure in chamber B that forces valve 2 to open.
3. Blood is in the downstream which is causing low pressure in chambers A & B, and high
pressure in chamber C which cause valve 1 & 2 to be open
4. A. Valve 1: Mitral valve
B. Valve 2: Aortic semilunar valve
C. Chamber C: Aorta
5. If the valve doesn’t close completely it could potentially send the blood back from
chamber C the aorta to chamber B the left ventricular and it would not allow enough
pressure to accumulate in chamber B for valve 2 to open.
6. Greater than the aortic pressure to allow the flow to circulate correctly because the blood
moves from high pressure to a lower pressure.
A. The left ventricular is open because it needs to be able to flow through
B. The mitral valve needs to be open to allow the pressure to build up to allow it to move
to the next chamber.
7. Less than because it is no filled to capacity and the aorta is filled
A. The mitral valve is open because the aortic valve is closed because the blood needs
to be able to flow out.
B. The aortic valve is closed because it is not done filling completely and there is not
enough pressure to open the valve.
8. The aorta, the left ventricle, and left atrium
A. Left Atrium has the lowest pressure
B. Left ventricle shows the greatest change
9. The two phases are diastole which is when the heart ventricles are relaxed and the heart
fills with blood and systole which is when the ventricles contract and pump blood out of
the heart and into the arteries
