Answer & Explanation Verified Solved by verified expert Rated Helpful Compare the two instrumental techniques of High Performance Ion Chromatography (HPIC) Principle High Performance... Ion Chromatography (HPIC), is analytical technique used to identify the molecular make-up of materials. Ion chromatography has become an important analytical methodology in pharmaceuticals , environmental quality analysis, and industrial inorganic and organic contaminant analysis. HPIC (High Performance Ion Chromatography) offers efficient way of contaminant analysis. It offers the environmental, industrial, biological, pharmaceutical, chemical and food sectors a simple, fast and accurate materials analysis technique with applications that range from quality control to environmental analysis. Advantages of HPIC Ion chromatography is a versatile analytical technique that provides a quality control and cleanliness testing option for manufacturers in many industries. It is a highly-sensitive, high selectivity, high speed and accurate material analysis technique that detects both organic acids and inorganic ionic contamination. Ionic contaminants, such as chlorine, sulfates, phosphates and ammonia, are typically residues left behind during the manufacturing process, and can lead to product failure or malfunction. Disadvantages One of the main disadvantage of ion-exchange chromatography is its buffer requirement: because binding to IEX resins is dependent on electrostatic interactions between proteins of interests and the stationary phase, ion exchange chromatography column must be loaded-salt buffers. and Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) for the determination of cations and anions in solutions in terms of principles, advantages and disadvantages. Principle of Operation High-performance capillary electrophoresis is based on the differential migration of components of aqueous samples inside a narrow fused silica capillary worked by an electric field. Separated solutes are quantitatively detected at the capillary outlet by a high-sensitive optical system based on direct or indirect UV absorbance. Advantages of Capillary Electrophoresis The advantage of using capillary tubes are lateral effects are reduced and temperature differences across the tube are reduced. The properties of the tube are reduced. The properties of the tube, and others properties set by the technician, lead to what is known constant across the tubule across the tube's cross-section, perpendicular to the flow. Under plug flow, axial diffusion is the only factor leading to dispersion ,so the separation efficiency using CE is very high. Disadvantages of Capillary Electrophoresis The velocity lower at the interface between tube wall and liquid, giving a velocity profile with a bulge to band-broadening and and the wider peeks seen in HPLC for example.
