One theory that has influenced my practice regarding my values and goals is Florence Nightingale s Environmental Theory. This theory takes on a Holistic approach, or an approach that focuses on the patient as a whole. This theory also focuses on the effects the environment has on a patient. When we discuss the environment, we refer to the patient s surroundings. This does not just mean the room, but also the bed, the color of the walls, the nurses, the doctors as well as the support staff. All of these things influence the patient.
