Biguanides decrease intestinal absorption of glucose and the uptake of glucose by tissues. It lowers the production of glucose by the liver and is secreted by the kidneys. Hypoglycemia cannot happen because Biguanides do not secrete insulin. One of the warning signs is it can cause lactic acidosis[ CITATION Jil15 \l 1033 ]. Glinides act similar to sulfonylureas but they cause insulin secretion. They only last a short duration and they must be taken with food or they could quickly go into hypoglycemic reactions. Sulfonylureas increase insulin secretion, but you must have functioning b cells in your pancreas.
